At the foot of the Cascade Range, the Sisters area includes the town of Sisters and the unincorporated, census-designated communities of Black Butte Ranch and Camp Sherman.
The town of Sisters (el. 3,182′) was founded in 1888. It is located in Deschutes County 20 miles west of Redmond and 23 miles northwest of Bend. Established design guidelines maintain an old west character to the town. Each year the town hosts a number of events including the Sisters Rodeo, Sisters Quilt Outdoor Show, and Sisters Folk Festival. The town is also close to the Hoodoo ski area, Santiam Pass (HWY 20) and Mackenzie Pass (HWY 242).
Black Butte Ranch (el. 3,350′) is a census-designated place and unincorporated private resort community in Deschutes County. It is located 9 miles northeast of Sisters. One of the oldest destination resorts in central Oregon, development of the former cattle ranch began in 1970.
