Who am I and how did I get here?
My history, in brief, is that I was born in Portland and raised in Gresham, Oregon. In 1994, I graduated from the University of Oregon with a 5-year Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Architecture (with a minor in Art History) and immediately found work at a large architectural firm in Portland. In late 1999, I sat for and passed the architectural licensing exams - officially becoming a registered architect in the State of Oregon in January 2000. In 2002, I relocated from Portland to central Oregon and have been here ever since.
The 2008 recession triggered several rounds of lay-offs and re-hires at the architectural firms I last worked for, with one of them eventually closing for good at the end of 2012. Rather than move back to Portland (or another large metro area), I chose to stay in central Oregon and open my own company.
In early 2016, with the housing market on the rebound, I decided to obtain my broker's license and branch out into the world of real estate as well. While the two professions are unique unto themselves, I am finding that they also complement each other rather nicely.
As far as I am aware, I am the only Realtor®/Architect in central Oregon. While I am not a licensed appraiser or inspector, I am happy to offer my professional advice/opinion on other aspects of real estate such as design, siting, materials, remodeling, etc.
Outside of my professional life, or perhaps in support of it, I enjoy music, cinema, photography
Though I am licensed to sell real estate throughout the state of Oregon, my focus is on the Central Oregon area - including Deschutes County, Jefferson County, Crook County, and occasionally northern Klamath County. This area encompasses the cities and towns of Bend, Redmond, La Pine, Madras, Metolius, Culver, Prineville, and Sisters as well as the unincorporated areas of Powell Butte, Terrebonne, Tumalo, and Three Rivers South. This area is also known for the resort communities of Black Butte Ranch, Brasada Ranch, Caldera Springs, Crooked River Ranch, Crosswater, Eagle Crest, Pronghorn, Sunriver, Tetherow, and Three Rivers Recreation Area. Basic property searches for all of those can be found via those links as well as under the "Properties"
I am active on social media and I invite you to interact with me at any or all of the following sites:

"Mitch Darby was very responsive in setting up a showing on the property I received via e-mail from him. This home is in a very desirable senior park Co-op where sales occur in a very short time. Mitch’s prompt action allowed me to make a quick offer that he immediately presented to the seller’s agent to secure the purchase. Mitch is excellent at returning calls and e-mails whether late at night, weekends, etc."
- Bruce S., Redmond, OR
"Mitch was extremely knowledgeable about the various communities within central Oregon and went out of his way to answer all of our questions. And since he’s also a registered architect, when we had questions about design & construction, he was able to answer those as well!"
- J. & R. Taylor, Bend, OR
"Hey Mitch, I want to thank you. I won’t lie, prior to speaking to you, I spoke to 2 maybe 3 other brokers. Some of them reminded me of car salesmen - not really paying attention to my needs. You’ve corresponded with me professionally."
- Neal G., La Pine, OR
"Mitch, thank you for the effort you put out on our behalf."
- Cathy M., Bend, OR
"Mitch - Dude, you rock!"
- Randy C., Powell Butte, OR
